Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction versus Conventional Pcr: a Comparison between Two Methods for the Detection of Fusobacterium Nucleatum in Saliva, Nasopharyngeal
نویسندگان
چکیده
Oral and middle ear infections are biofilm related infections. Fusobacterium nucleatum is considered to be a key species in dental biofilm formation. The aim of this study was to compare conventional and real-time PCR, for the detection of F. nucleatum in saliva, nasopharyngeal secretion and middle ear effusion samples. Sixty samples were collected from 20 patients with otitis media with effusion. Species-specific 16S rRNA primers were used for conventional PCR and species-specific primers and TaqMan probes were used for real-time PCR analysis. Real-time PCR had a better performance than conventional PCR in detecting bacteria in the analyzed samples. The tested real-time PCR assay can identify and quantify F. nucleatum in biofilm samples with a high degree of sensitivity when compared with conventional PCR techniques.

Development of New Modified Simple Polymerase Chain Reaction and Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction for the Identification of Iranian Brucella abortus Strains
Brucellosis is primarily a worldwide zoonotic disease caused by Brucella species. The genus Brucella contains highly infectious species that are classified as biological threat agents. In this regard, the identification of Brucella can be a time-consuming and labor-intensive process posing a real risk of laboratory-acquired infection to the laboratory staff. This stud...
متن کاملSaliva As a Diagnostic Tool in Covid 19 Detection, A Review
Background and Aim: Delayed detection of SARS-CoV-2 has been a major hindrance in curbing the current COVID-19 pandemic. Wide spread testing is the most practical way out of the current crisis. The current gold standard for COVID-19 diagnosis is real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) detection of SARS-CoV-2 from nasopharyngeal swabs. However, collecting nasopharyngea...

AIM The interpretation of conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay results is often limited to either positive or negative (non-detectable). The more robust quantitative PCR (qPCR) method is mostly reserved for quantitation studies and not a readily accessible technology in laboratories across developing nations. The aim of this study was to evaluate a semi-quantitative method for con...

PURPOSE At present, information regarding periodontal disease in geriatric patients is scarce. The purpose of this study was to quantify the periodontal pathogens present in the saliva of Korean geriatric patients and assess the relationship between the bacterial levels and the periodontal condition. METHODS Six putative periodontal pathogens were quantified by using a real-time polymerase ch...
متن کاملComparison of Quantitative Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) and Agglutination Assays in Diagnosis of Brucellosis in Golestan Province, North of Iran
Introduction: Brucellosis is one of the most common zoonotic infections worldwide. The clinical symptoms of brucellosis are similar to a wide range of diseases; hence, reliable diagnostic and laboratory methods are required to identify the causative agent. Iran is an endemic region of brucellosis, and many patients are misdiagnosed due to the nature of the infection. In this study, we aimed to ...
